Community Guidelines at One Dinner Away

What we expect from our users and what you should expect from the people you meet

We're a social app that connects groups of 5–6 people for dinner, coffee and board game events at different venues (restaurants, coffee shops, game cafes). Matching is based on personality and shared interests. The group and the venue are revealed 24 hours before a dinner, 24 hours before a game night, and 12 hours before a coffee morning.

The purpose of the guidelines exist to protect that experience for every user from One Dinner Away. These community guidelines apply before the event, at the event, at the afterdrink, in the whatsapp, telegram or in app chat. The guidelines also extend beyond the event itself and if someone shares their contact info with you, you're welcome to reach out, but if they let you know (directly or indirectly) that they'd rather not continue the conversation, that decision has to be respected. Contact after that point is a guideline violation.

If any of these guidelines are violated, a permanent ban from the platform can happen. To report a user, you can reach us through the report button in the app or on the website, a real person always handles every report, and we take it very seriously.

It is very important to report violations and not different disagreements that can happen. A fake report can lead to the guidelines violations.

The steps that we take to tackle the reports are:

  1. We establish contact with the person that reports the other person
  2. We establish contact with the reported person
  3. We decide if we give a warning, a temporary ban or a permanent ban
  4. For serious and high risk actions we give from the beginning a permanent ban. Actions with low risk and harm can receive a warning or more, but repeated misconduct will lead to permanent ban.

Account and participation

  • Each person is allowed only one account and the only way you can participate is either by coming alone or bringing a +1 through the app (the +1 has to be visible into the app). Joining an event with persons that are outside of the app is strictly forbidden and it can lead to a permanent ban. Other users are encouraged to reach out to the One Dinner Away management team if they do not see the +1 person in the app, but it is present at the event.
  • The name on your profile must be your real name - pseudonyms, nicknames, and fake names are not allowed. Identity verification may be requested.
  • Your age must be accurate and you must be 18 or older. Identity verification may be requested.
  • If you have been banned and try to make new accounts, then all of the associated accounts will be banned as well.

At the event (dinners, coffee meets, afterdrink, others)

  • At the dinners and coffee meet events it is against the community guidelines to promote your business in order to acquire clients, or to attract users in an MLM scheme, or to push others to invest in different platforms. It is fine to have conversations about your professional life, but do not use the One Dinner Away context to create a pipeline of clients.
  • Reaching over or helping yourself to someone else's food without asking is against the community guidelines
  • Walking away from the restaurant without paying is against the community guidelines
  • For privacy reasons, be aware that taking photos or videos where other people are included without their approval is against the community guidelines.
  • It is not acceptable to make hateful comments, or mocking someone's disability, looks, identity, accent, or background, including repeated remarks that make someone uncomfortable.
  • It is against the community guidelines to offer romantic attention after the person has clearly stated or mentioned it is not interested.
  • Sexual harassment, nude photos or propositions with sexual comments or propositions are strictly forbidden
  • Taking or damaging another guest's belongings is a serious violation of trust and will not be tolerated
  • Make sure to inform the restaurant directly of any allergies before the meal begins and if the venue fails to accommodate your dietary requirements, or if staff behave disrespectfully during the event, please let us know
  • Do show up at the event or cancel in time. Repeated no-shows or late cancellations may lead to ban in the platform
  • Every person has the right to leave the event at any time they feel uncomfortable, without needing to justify the decision. The same applies for drinking or staying late
  • Sharing personal details like your workplace, social media, or contact information is always optional, never expected. It is forbidden to use the information you found at the events (directly or indirectly) to track someone down (workplace, social media, etc.) if they haven't offered those details themselves.
  • Only people matched through the app (the +1 included) should be present at the events. If you notice someone has brought along a guest who wasn't part of the original group, please let us know.
  • Conversations can sometimes turn personal or vulnerable. When they do, mocking or laughing at someone's experience is against the community guidelines

After the events (dinner, coffee meets, afterdrink, others)

  • The groups on whatsapp and telegram exist for connecting, not selling and it is a place to say hello before the event or ask a quick question, not a channel to promote your business, products, or services.
  • Don't message someone privately without a clear, reasonable purpose. Reaching out one-on-one to a number or contact shared through these groups without good reason goes against these guidelines.
  • Keep shared photos and videos consensual. If photos or videos from the event are shared in the group afterward, the same approval rule applies, don't post anything that includes another guest without their consent.
  • If something happens after the event, an uncomfortable message, unwanted contact, harassment in the group, report it through the app or website rather than handling it publicly in the whatsapp, telegram or in-app chat.

Other

  • Fighting, threats, or any behavior that endangers someone's safety.
  • Scams, fraud, or asking other members for money or loans.
  • Repeated romantic pressure or unwanted comments after being clearly turned down.
  • Hate speech or discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or nationality.
  • Aggressive commercial behavior like MLM recruiting or selling products/services, anywhere in the community, including the WhatsApp/Telegram in-app chat groups.
